Praktikum oder Ausbildung im Stadtarchiv

Studierende, besonders im Fach Geschichte, können bei ihrem Pflichtpraktikum fürs Studium die Arbeit eines Stadtarchivs kennen lernen. Ein Praktikum dauert mindestens vier Wochen, während derer die verschiedenen Abteilungen des Stadtarchivs besucht werden. Wir bieten qualifizierte Praktikumsplätze für Studierende im Bachelor-Studiengang Archiv oder im Master-Studiengang Archivwissenschaft an der Fachhochschule Potsdam oder im Vorbereitungsdienst für den gehobenen und für den höheren Archivdienst (Archivschule Marburg).

Wir bilden regelmäßig Fachangestellte für Medien- und Informationsdienste, Fachrichtung Archiv, aus. Die dreijährige praktische Ausbildung findet im Stadtarchiv Münster statt; Praktika in der Stadtbibliothek und beim LWL-Archivamt für Westfalen öffnen den Blick in benachbarte Berufsfelder und andere Archivbereiche. Der Berufsschulunterricht findet am Karl-Schiller-Berufskolleg in Dortmund statt.

A short history of the archive

  • 1570 A chronicle mentions for the first time the town archive housed in the council scribe's office.
  • 1636 The city archive gets a new building in the smithy tower behind the town hall.
  • 1870 The archive gradually becomes accessible to the public.
  • 1913 The first full-time town archivist is hired.
  • 1942 The archives survive the 2nd World War undamaged.
  • 1953 After repatriation, the archive holdings find a place in the Krameramtshaus.
  • 1978 The archive moves to the "Lotharinger Kloster" on Hörsterstraße (now the registry office).
  • 2003 The archive moves to the "Speicherstadt" in Münster-Coerde.
