The municipal archive Löhne preserves the written and pictorial cultural heritage of the city of Löhne. It safeguards legal and cultural assets of high value and serves the needs of society for historical information, transparency of administrative action and legal certainty.
Taking into account the current data protection provisions, all of our holdings and collections are available for public use. Please be aware that fees may apply for ordering reproductions of documents, photos and other materials. Further information on recent opening times, services and fees can be found on our website (only available in German). In case of any questions, please do not hesitate to get in contact.

Our holdings
The holdings of the archive refer to diverse groups of documents that have been combined into logically comprehensible units according to aspects such as their origin, their factual content or formal characteristics. As is common in german municipal archives the most general structure is the classification of all archive materials into either administrative or non-administrative holdings.
The administrative holdings of the municipal archive Löhne include:
- Documents and files of the city of Löhne (founded in 1969), 1969 - today
- Documents and files of the former municipality of Löhne (Amt Löhne), 1943-1968
- Documents and files of the former municipality Gohfeld-Mennighüffen (Doppelamt Gohfeld-Mennighüffen), 1843-1943.
- Documents and files of the former administrative district Quernheim-Mennighüffen, 1816-1843.
- Documents and files from the Archive of Haus Beck (a local manor/ estate) that can be dated from 1523 to 1880 and were transferred to the municipal archive of Löhne in 1984.
The non-administrative holdings of the municipal archive Löhne include:
- documents and files from local political parties
- documents and files from local social and cultural societies
- documents and files from local sports clubs
- documents and files from local religious communities
- pictural archives, including photo and film documents
- local newspapers since 1950/1951

Archivbibliothek
Das Stadtarchiv Löhne sammelt und bewahrt nicht nur zahlreiche Orginaldokumente aus Stadt- und Verwaltungsgeschichte, sondern verfügt auch über eine eigene Archivbibliothek mit zahlreichen Werken zur erweiterten Lokal- und Regionalgeschichte sowie Unterlagen zur genealogischen Forschung (bzw. Ahnenforschung / Familienforschung) wie Kirchenbuchregister und Adressbüchern.
Welche Buchtitel im Einzelnen bereitstehen, kann ab sofort über den Online-Katalog der Stadtbücherei Löhne eingesehen werden. Die Bestände der Archivbibliothek sind hier jeweils durch den Hinweis „Zweigstelle Archiv“ kenntlich gemacht. Anders als die Stadtbücherei handelt es sich bei der Archivbibliothek allerdings um eine Präsenzbibliothek. Eine Ausleihe ist daher nicht möglich.
Alle Interessierten, die während der Öffnungszeiten des Stadtarchivs – Di. 08:00-13:00 Uhr und Do. 13:00-17:30 Uhr – vorbei kommen und in den Beständen der Archivbibliothek stöbern möchten, sind herzlich willkommen!
