Stadtarchiv Dinslaken

The city archives collect documents, plans and audio-visual materials regarding the history of Dinslaken. The focus is on everything  that may be important for the administration or legal status of the city and for the research into the everyday live of the people. The city archives have existed as an institution since 1950. Since the late Middle Ages, the city of Dinslaken has had a so-called "stadtskyste" („city chest“), in which particularly important and valuable documents and deeds were stored. 

The staff of the archives will assist you in your research. We will be happy to advise you and give you orientation when working with the various finding aids. A Reading Room is available for visitors.

Our holdings

The documents of the city administration form the core of our archival records. All files are offered to the archives after their retention periods have expired. The archives hold a selection of these records, the accession, and make it available for research within the framework of the legal requirements. 

The collections complement the public records. Photos, newspapers, maps, construction plans, private papers and thematic collections supplement the administration records to reflect the diversity of the municipal society. 

Unfortunately, it is not possible to order archival materials for use in our reading room via the Archivportal NRW. Please send us the accession number of the desired documents by e-mail to stadtarchiv@dinslaken.de and we will be happy to make an appointment for your visit.

Information for visitors

The Reading Room of the city archives is open to all members of the public for research purposes. Visitors must sign an attendance form and follow Reading Room guidelines during their visit. It is required to schedule an appointment by e-mail or telephone in advance. The staff of the archives is available to advise users and support them in their research.

Personal Records

PersonenstandsregisterAnnually, the civil registry office transfers the personal records of which the retention periods have expired to the city archive. Access to these registers in our reading room is free of charge. On request, certified and uncertified copies of documents can be issued for a fee.
