Stadtarchiv Hörstel

The town of Hörstel, founded in 1975, and consists of the four districts of Hörstel, Riesenbeck, Bevergern and Dreierwalde, which were all independent municipalities in earlier times. The surviving archive material of these four formerly independent municipalities is therefore housed united in the modern archive and offers an extremely varied insight into the history of this attractive region on the edge of the western foothills of the Teutoburg Forest, which according to historical standards is assigned to the Tecklenburger Land.

Our holdings

The stocks of the Hörstel municipal archive currently containe an estimated 5,300 different archive items on around 100 linear meters of shelving. The absolute majority of these are files; some of them date back to the early 19th century. The old and more recent holdings from Riesenbeck, Bevergern and Dreierwalde are housed at the Hörstel town hall location, while the rather lavishly filled construction file archive is located at Sünte-Rendel-Straße 14 in Riesenbeck. The archive also contains various collections (newspaper cuttings, brochures etc.) and private estates.

A planned new town hall building in Hörstel district should make many things easier in the future and also provide modern, sufficient space for the archive to be able to unite all collections there under one roof.
