Universitätsarchiv Wuppertal
The Bergische Universität Wuppertal Archive has been a public archive within the meaning of the North Rhine-Westphalian Archive Act since 4 November 2002.
The University Archive preserves the files and other documents of all parts of the university that have arisen in administration, research and teaching, insofar as they are suitable for permanent storage.
As archive material, they are catalogued and made available for use, in particular for research into the history of the university and other scientific purposes.
The University Archive is also interested in supplementing the official holdings with private estates and collections from teaching staff, employees, students and friends and supporters of the university. This also includes photos, memoirs, personal accounts and other material related to the university.

Our holdings
The holdings of the University Archives can mainly be categorised into the following major groups:
- Academic self-administration
- Faculties and institutes
- Central administration
- Central facilities
- Student self-administration
- Donations and estates
- Collections (e.g. photo collection, museum collection)
- Predecessor institutions (until 1972)
Informationen zur Nutzung
Die Benutzung steht jedem offen, der ein berechtigtes Interesse hat. Darunter fallen wissenschaftliche Forschung, die Wahrung persönlicher und rechtlicher Belange sowie die Ausleihe durch die Dienststellen der Universität.
Bei der Benutzung sind die gesetzlichen Vorschriften (Benutzerordnung und Ordnung des Archivs) einzuhalten. Von der Benutzung grundsätzlich ausgeschlossen sind Akten, die noch nicht 30 Jahre geschlossen sind, sowie personenbezogene Unterlagen, wie u.a. Personalakten oder Prüfungsakten. Außer den Betroffenen darf das Universitätsarchiv hier erst 10 Jahre nach dem Tod (oder hilfsweise 90 Jahre nach der Geburt) Einsicht gewähren.
Abschlussarbeiten (wie z.B. Diplomarbeiten) werden aus urheberrechtlichen Gründen nur vorgelegt, wenn eine Einverständniserklärung des Prüflings vorliegt.
Das Universitätsarchiv erteilt keine (Studien-) Bescheinigungen aus seinen Unterlagen. Diese können evtl. noch über die vormals aktenführende Stelle (z.B. Prüfungsamt) angefordert werden. Im Einzelfall beraten wir Sie auch hierzu gern weiter.
