Exhibitions and Events

Various events take place at all locations of the Landesarchiv Nordrhein-Westfalen over the course of the year, e.g. exhibitions, lecture series, workshops, archive education programs. Here you will find an overview of upcoming events sorted by department; some events are held across different departments.

Interdepartmental events

DAY OF THE ARCHIVES

The Day of Archives has been organized by the archives in Germany and Switzerland every two years since 2001. This “open day” gives people the opportunity to get to know archives and archival topics better. The initiator of this event is the Association of German Archivists (Verband deutscher Archivarinnen und Archivare e. V. - VdA), which also develops a motto for the day. The events on offer range from themed exhibitions and archive tours to workshops and individual consultations. The Landesarchiv regularly takes part in the event with its three regional departments in Duisburg, Münster and Detmold.

NORTH RHINE-WESTPHALIA DAY

The North Rhine-Westphalia Day is a state festival held every two years to mark the founding of the federal state on August 23, 1946, during which the various regions present themselves to a state-wide audience. An integral part of the event is a large citizens' festival, which offers cultural, sporting and other events. The state authorities, from the ministries to the state's own institutions, also present themselves to the citizens on a special state mile. The Landesarchiv regularly participates in the event with its own pavilion. For example, visitors are offered information about the aerial photo collection, the possibilities of family research or the archive's educational program. The hands-on aspect is not neglected either: the preservation activities, such as seal casting or making your own paper, are always very popular.
